Complaints and Discipline

As a result of changes to the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007 and the new Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, the College of Early Childhood Educators is in the process of updating its website to better reflect the new legislative changes. For this reason, information pertaining to the College’s Complaints and Discipline process found on the College’s website may no longer reflect current practices.

The College investigates and resolves complaints about College members related to professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity.

Do you have concerns about a member? Find out How to file a complaint.

If you wish to file a complaint against a member, please complete and submit the Complaint Intake Form.

If you are an employer and would like to file a complaint against a member, please complete and submit the  Complaint Intake Form

If you are an employer or a supervisor and wish to provide the College with a report or a notification in regards to a member’s conduct or actions, please complete and submit the Employer Notification and Employer Report Form

If you have concerns about a licensed child care program’s compliance with the requirements set out under the ​Child Care and Early Years Act, you may contact your local Ministry of Education - Child Care Quality Assurance and Licensing regional office.  


Available Legal Support

The College recognizes that for some RECEs, retaining legal representation may be financially out of reach. In light of the importance of enhancing access to justice, the College is committed to doing what it can to facilitate high quality legal services.

Hearings

The College’s Discipline Committee hearings are open to the public.  Find out more information about the discipline committee hearings. Notices of hearings, with the specific allegations, are found on the upcoming hearings page. The dates of the hearings are on the upcoming hearings page.


Decisions

Proceedings of the Complaints Committee are confidential but certain decisions related to a Memorandum of Agreement are available on this website.

A three-member panel of the Discipline Committee conducts public hearings into cases of alleged professional misconduct and/or incompetence. The panels are composed of both elected and appointed Council members.

Disciplinary decisions are listed in alphabetical order according to the Member's name.

A three-member panel of the Fitness to Practise committee conducts hearings regarding cases of incapacity. The hearings are closed and the decisions of the Fitness to Practise committee are not publicized.
